Investing

There are many different investment options available to Canadians.  The most important investment that you can make is to invest the time to locate a financial advisor who meets your requirements and offers solutions that will satisfy your needs.

1) It needs to be someone with whom you can communicate and work well.

2) It should be someone who is professionally designated. You wouldn't trust just anyone with your physical health. You should find a professional to help with your financial health. Someone, for example, who has attained the Certified Financial Planner (CFPtm) or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLUtm) designations.

3) It should be someone who adheres to a strict code of ethics.

4) It should be someone who belongs to their industry professional association. (such as Advocis - The Financial Advisors Association of Canada).

5) It should be someone who maintains ongoing and meaningful continuing education.  You should look for someone who stays abreast of the industry.

6) Someone who maintains Errors and Ommission Insurance.

7) It should be someone who is committed to being in this business for many years.  Once you find someone who meets the first six criteria - you will not likely want to have to locate a new advisor after taking the time to get to know each other.
